The swidden cultivation has not been conducted since 1990 and then they cultivate rice on permanent dry fi elds. On the other hand, Iu Mien household composition has been changed since 1988; the decrease of patrilineal joint families and the increase of nuclear families.\nThe shift towards permanent fi eld cultivation infl uenced their agricultural calendar and the increase of nuclear family households has infl uenced their labour exchange. Some works in swidden were disappeared and other works were introduced. Their agricultural calendar was shifted afterwards in half a month.
